Agyness rules the world!
Posted in Uncategorized on February 26, 2008 by EmmylouStyle Icon of the Day
Posted in Uncategorized on February 25, 2008 by EmmylouIt sounds a little cliched but she is undoubtedly one of the most unique dressers in the world: Mary Kate Olsen.
From her red carpet looks to day to day clothes, everything she wears has a quirky, eclectic edge, copied by fashionistas the world over. Last summer she was the reason everyone was wearing Ray Ban wayfearers. More recently she’s the reason Beyond Retro (the popular London vintage store) sold out of plaid shirts. Together with sister Ashley, Mary Kate’s just launched two fashion lines. The Row features high end fashionable basics that reflect the twins’ own relaxed style. Elizabeth and James, so named for their other siblings, is a more affordable line with a younger edge. Both have been well recieved by the fashion world, and customers alike.
Mary Kate’s also kept up with her acting which was of course where she and her sister made their name. After a recent stint on the hit TV show Weeds, Olsen can soon be seen staring alongside Ben Kingsley in The Wackness.
Fashionistas rejoyce, and check out the outfits above for some style inspiration.
Gucci ‘08
Posted in Uncategorized on February 25, 2008 by EmmylouSo, this season saw Gucci’s head designer, Frida Giannini, move away from the brash sexiness so often associated with the Italian fashion house. The Milan fashion week show presented a much softer, more bohemian look, perfect for this summer. The tribal printed maxi dresses looked like the kind of thing you’d see Mary-Kate Olsen floating out of Starbucks in. They reflected summer’s tribal gladiator look to perfection and showed a total turn around for Gucci.
Lee Cooper by Lou Doillon
Posted in Uncategorized on February 25, 2008 by EmmylouJust when you thought good denim couldn’t be any more covetable, legendary label Lee Cooper announces it’s design partnership with french model, and daughter of Jane Birkin, Lou Doillon. Doillon is known for her eclectic personal style, which made her the perfect person to design the capsule collection for summer. Retro staples like high waisted shorts and waistcoats, that you can imagine Kate Moss wearing at Glastonbury, are the mainstay of the collection, which will no doubt be spotted on fashions elite from paris to LA.
Oscars Fashion
Posted in Uncategorized on February 25, 2008 by EmmylouPersonally i thought the red carpet was a bit dull this year. Most actresses chose to play it safe rather than take any fashion risks. However, there were a few exceptions to the rule. Ann Hathaway looked stunning in a red grecian style gown by Marchesa, who definately ruled the red carpet as they also dressed Jessica Alba in a beautiful, purple feathered gown. The youngest nominee for best actress, Ellen Page, opted for vintage, which definately separated her from the other actresses. Heidi Klum showcased the best red dress with this Haute Couture by John Galliano creation which she’s auctioning off for a women’s heart charity this month.
However, best dressed of the evening has to go to Penelope Cruz, for her stunning Chanel Haute Couture gown, specially made for her by Karl Lagerfeld. The navy blue, feathered gown was definately the most beautiful and dramatic gown on the red carpet this year.
Pucci by Matthew Williamson
Posted in Uncategorized on February 24, 2008 by EmmylouSince taking over the position of creative director at Pucci, Matthew Williamson has brought the fashion house firmly back into the fashion spotlight, and his latest colection shown at Milan fashion week, shows us how he’s done it. While maintaining the elements that made the house a success the first time round (bright colours, technicolour prints) he’s also moved it firmly into the 21st century. This season he produced tough, urban looks which wouldn’t look out of place on the backs of Mary-kate Olsen or Chloe Seveigny. For the traditionalists in the crowd however, there were the signature looks, like flowing dresses with bright geometric prints and swirls of tropical blooms. Definately a hit show.
Boombox Tribute
Posted in Uncategorized on February 24, 2008 by EmmylouBoombox is no more. The legendary Hoxton, London club night has closed it’s doors for the final time. After months of debauchery that saw everyone from Agyness Deyn, Henry Holland, Giles Deacon, and Jodie Harsh to Kylie and Christopher Kane walk through it’s doors to the craziness inside, the founders decided to end on a high. It’s a positive tribute to the clientele that a run down club in Hoxton became the hottest ticket in London, especially during fashion week. So, to end on a high here’s just a few photos that go to show why Boombox was like no other club in the world. RIP.
Style Icon of the Day
Posted in Uncategorized on February 24, 2008 by EmmylouLadies and gentlemen, the one and only Agyness Deyn.
In case you live under a rock and haven’t seen her before, she’s the hot young model who has a personal style like Kate Moss on acid. Best pals with designer Henry Holland, Deyn is currently cropping up in advertising campaigns for Giorgio Armani, House of Holland and Burberry. She’s also hitting up the coolest parties in London including the, now legendary and closed down, Boombox club night in Hoxton (see above!).
Shop of the week
Posted in Uncategorized on February 24, 2008 by EmmylouHas to be American Apparel. I’ve been looking for simple basics like t-shirts, hoodies, skirts etc for ages and these are without question the best i’ve found. Worn by everyone from the Olsen’s to Ashlee Simpson, Nicole Richie and Hilary Duff, every item comes in a huge selection of colours. I’ve recently invested in the fleece hoodie and the interlock pencil skirt, both of which are amazing. So comfortable and look awsome. Next on my wishlist are sheer v-neck tee’s and the jersey pocket skirt, as worn by Alexa Chung.
